Finding Your Signature Scent
How to find the scent that's perfect for you!
Finding your signature scent can be one of the hardest things to do. To the majority, it may just seem like a spritz or two as part of your daily routine, but having a scent that is notoriously associated to you and speaks for who you are is so meaningful.
Although having the perfect scent is important, it's also quite difficult. With so many notes and fragrances to choose from, I've put together a bit of guidance to make choosing your signature fragrance as simple as possible.
Technical Talk
There's so much technical language that comes with choosing a fragrance so I shan't bore you with the details, and will stick to the basics.
You may often see perfumes described in 'notes'. Top/Head notes are the lightest and what you first smell in that initial spray. They are also the first to disperse from the time you apply the perfume. This is followed by the Middle/Heart notes which is the essence layer, and then Base notes which is considered the true scent of the fragrance; the last layer you smell before it completely fades. Although they're three different layers, they must compliment each other to form the overall fragrance, so their blend is vital. Fragrances can also be described in concentration, with 'Eau De Toilette' typically being the weakest sold and 'Parfums' being the strongest concentration, and what I always suggest purchasing in order to make your scent last.
Fragrance Families
Finding the perfect scent that speaks for exactly who you are, your personality, your look; your vibe...is almost impossible! Some people may base their fragrance on other factors too. When I was younger, I remember my brother spraying our mothers perfume, in an attempt to attract more girls (not sure if it actually worked), but it sounded like a great idea!
What I've found the easiest is choosing a scent family, then searching for fragrances that predominately consist of those scents. I personally love to smell sweet and warm, so I choose fragrances that contain vanilla and caramel in their base layer, and the scents in the head and heart depend on the season we're in. If it's a winter night, I'll opt for fragrances consistent with the sweet and smoky smell, whereas summer days are sweet and fruity, and so on. This means, your signature scent will depend on your choice of base layer.
These days, you have to sell an arm and a leg on the black market just to buy a quality fragrance. It's all sooooo expensive, especially for the best of the best, so once you find your signature scent, shop a few dupes too! This is my favourite part about shopping for perfumes, because it means I save a few coins and, stay smelling amazing. I personally love Zara's collections, but you can find many more fragrance dupes at The Archives.
Finding the perfect scent that describes exactly who you are shouldn't be that hard and now, it dosen't have to be. Say exactly who you are without saying anything at all; be known as the one who 'always smells amazing' and make your life a little simpler now!
