The make up products I’m currently loving and I know you will too
I don’t wear makeup everyday, so when I do feel like getting glammed up, or making a bit of effort, these are the products I run to and always recommend!
Base
I don’t know if it’s just me but the feeling of foundation on my skin makes me feel suffocated! I don’t want to touch anything or do anything out of fear it’ll all rub off and go everywhere. In that case, I wear the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Spiced Rum, just under my eyes and around my nose. The coverage is great and it lasts sooooo long. I don’t get any creasing but this may have something to do with what I use to set. The Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Honey has been my go to for yearssss now!! I don’t know if you remember the Ben NYE Banana Powder EPIDEMIC, but I soon upgraded and what an upgrade she is. Not cakey, not heavy, no flashback. Laura Mercier really is a dream but being the oily skinned girl that I am, I musttttttt also follow up with the Chanel Ultra Le Teint Compact Foundation in BR132. Whilst this is a foundation, I view it more as a pressed powder and use it to top up in "shiny moments". I don’t use it every time but when I need to, she gets the job done. Overall it’s fantastic and adds a bit of coverage too, so if you like a bright under eye, I’d definitely recommend however a shade or two above yours for the effect you’re after.
Bronze Goddess
Oh to be kissed by the sun! I began my bronzer obsession…yes obsession a few years ago, and I’ve never looked back. There was never a shade dark enough for me but once Fenty entered the scene, me and “Fenty Sun Stalk’r” in Mocha Mami were joint at the hip. It’s the perfect blend of orangey, gold, brown (clearly not technical terms lol) and blends so evenly. A little goes a longggg way so I just pop some on the temples of my head and slightly under my cheekbones. To add to the collection, I also use the “Chanel Les Beiges Bronzing Cream” in 395 and she’s fabulous! Because it’s a cream bronzer, it gives such a nice glow and I really recommend in the summertime when you’re already a bit tanned, but want something extra.
Pretty and Pink
Like many others, I jumped on the blush train and I’m sooooo glad I did! Honestly I don’t know how I lived life without it, but all I can imagine is washed out and muted….but not anymore hunnies. I have a couple go to blushes that I absolutely swear by! For the summer time, “Glossier Cloud Paint” in Haze is literally the only thing I use. It’s so pigmented so again, a little goes a long way, plus it’s glowly and literally stains you cheeks so it’s not going anywhere or transferring throughout the day. Another fav and top recommendation is “Chanel Joues Contraste” in Rose Glacier. Now…the STORY behind this blush is chaotic (but long story short I searched 4 airport duty frees and 3 Chanel Stores just to find it!) Is that a testament to how good it is or just an insight to how much time I have on my hands…I’ll leave that for you to decide hehehe. Anywayssss, I do like a pink/fuchsia blush and for me is the perfect all year rounder! What sets it apart is the tinge of gold glitter within, that actually transfers on the skin. It’s subtle enough to make a difference, but not enough for me to be mistaken for a light bulb.
Speaking of lightbulbs…I’ve found the perfect highlight! 2016 Instagram made us think our cheeks needed to be seen from Mars but thank God for growth! I prefer a subtle glow now. I need you to question whether I’m wearing highlight or if I’m actually glowing from within and “Yves Saint Lauren Touché Eclat Shimmer Stick” is perfectionnnn. I know that it’s been discontinued so I’ll be holding on to every swipe of this until I find a replacement but! “REFY Gloss Highlighter” is just as amazing; especially if you like that wet glow look! I love to use this in summer and she’s fab.
Face Framers
I know that eyebrows are meant to be sisters not twins, but there's been times that mine don’t even look related! Until of course I found my perfect products. Like every other woman on the planet, me and my eyebrows have been on a journeyyyyy. Thankfully I never fell into the thin eyebrow trend (otherwise I don’t know where I’d be today), but the “Instagram brows” of 2016 had me in a chokehold! I literally remember the fear of my eyebrows rubbing off (what crazy times!!) so when the laminated/ natural brow trend came in, it was a saving grace that I now live by. My go to product is “Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze” although since I have oily skin, I find it doesn’t always hold how I need it to. Instead, I can always rely on the “REFY Brow Sculpt” to lift AND HOLD. It’s super strong! For sparse areas a brow pen is alwayssss better than a pencil because pencils tend to transfer, or actually not work if theres already product on your brows. Brow pens let you make light; hairlike strokes to keep a more realistic/ natural look and “Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pen” does just that.
Kissable
Lip gloss, lip oil, lip mask, lip balm…I’ll take it alllllllll!! I love a lip product and a good lip combo really ties your entire look together. My secret is finding a shade dark and warm enough to be my contour shade, but in a lip liner/pencil. I live by the “Kiko Milano” shade 321 (which is apparently being discontinued!!), but “Mac Lip Pencil” in Chestnut has absolutely stolen my heart. It’s the perfect warm brown AND texture, so it glides on perfectly and lasts so long. To top off, it’s obviouslyyyy the infamous “Dior Lip Oil” in Cherry, but was anyone else oddly surprised to find it wasn’t actually an OIL?? It really threw me off but it’s great and moisturising nonetheless. I like to keep it simple and stick to this on my day to day WITH a fresh tube of Carmex of course.
Finding the perfect makeup products is surprisingly hard! Something that works for your bestie may not necessarily work for you for whatever reason; now you’re walking around with patchy blush and concealer literally melting on your face (I've been there loool). Thankfully I’ve found mine and hopefully you get some inspiration, try some bits and find yours!
