Solid Perfumes
Exploring solid perfumes as an alternative fragrance option and to improve your routine
If you've never heard of solid perfumes, i'm honestly not surprised! For such an amazing product, it's really not talked about enough and unfortunately, there are only a few quality brands that create them. Solid Perfumes might be revolutionary and here's everything you need to know about them!
What are they?
Solid perfumes are a combination of wax and oils that solidify, into balms, but can also be found as gels and creams. They are extremely beneficial for travel as there's no caution of spilling, leakage or smashing. These lasts longer on the skin in comparison to liquid perfumes, as the moisture delays the "drying out process", so you don't have to reapply as often and therefore a little goes a long way. They have a higher concentration than au de toilette perfumes, but unfortunately their concentration is still quite subtle in comparison to parfum sprays (the highest possible concentration). This is obviously dependent on the chosen brand and preferred scent, but this may therefore be ideal for those who prefer a subtle scent, and is also great for layering with a spray on top.
Application
To apply, rub your fingers against the wax to warm it up and then dab it wherever you'd like or even run it through your hair. Fundamentally, it works best when applied to your pulse points, like the wrists and neck as the warmth of your body in those spots will help the scent to diffuse throughout the day.
Make your own
If you already have a favourite fragrance or Signature Scent *wink wink*, you can easily turn them into a solid perfume with a few simple steps!
Add cocoa butter or coconut oil and beeswax to a small, microwave-safe bowl
Microwave in 25 second increments until the mixture is fully melted
Add 1 ml of your chosen liquid perfume to the mixture and stir
Pour the mixture into your chosen container such as a tin or jar
Leave it to chill for a few hours, overnight or until solid and then it’s ready for use!
Recommendations
However, if you're not a fan of DIY, there are some amazing solid perfumes out there ranging from extremely inexpensive such as LUSH's range and lots from luxury brands and fragrance houses such as Jo Malone London and Diptyque.
Solid perfumes sound like the secret to any good perfume routine! Not only are they long lasting, but also inexpensive and safe for your skin, due to limited alcohol used. Add them to your routine and use them to layer your favourite scents!
